Class Descriptions and Requirements

Butterflies Ages 1-4

Creative Movement: Watch and participate as your little one explores and enjoys the power through dance. Creative Movement is designed to allow your child to socialize in a world seen through their eyes. Here they will dance, sing, and explore while developing gross motor skills! 

Mommy & Me Tumble: Watch and participate as your little one learns basic Acro/tumbling skills. They will be introduced to x's & o's, forward rolls, pike position, straddle position, tuck position, bridges, tripods, splits, rollie pollies, crabwalks, and assisted backward rolls.

Mommy & Me Ballet: Watch and participate as your little one learns the beautiful world of classical ballet. Standing at the barre for balance in introduced with simple skills or combinations of skills. Stretching and playful ballet activities are used during class to teach young dancers the foundation in classical ballet. In this class positions 1-5th are taught, and proper technique in plies, releve, tendus, jumps in 1st and 2nd, bourree, and chasse are all introduced. we believe that even at a young age correction and proper technique are vital in the success of future ballerinas and should be fun! 

Mommy & Me Music: Watch and participate as your little one learns fine motor skills while integrating music therapy. This is so much more than a class signing "Baby Shark". Here students learn not only motor skills but colors, numbers, ABCs, and more through music and play. This class is focused on fun education as well as building an unforgettable bond with their adults! 

Holly Blues Butterflies Ages 2.5-5

Tumble/Ribbons: Your tumbler will learn basic tumbling skills that involve the use of the body for counterbalance while gaining strength and flexibility. We believe in utilizing equipment as well as common items found in the home such as a wall, chair, and even towel so children can continue to work on assignments at home. Students will learn to forward roll, straddle roll, backward roll, handstand, cartwheel, bridge, splits, and tuck positions, and be introduced to bridge kickovers. Students will be taught proper techniques for each requirement to ensure they are learning safely. Ribbons will be incorporated into activities to create a fun and playful environment. All of this will be learned through games and hard work teaching them a good foundation for the future! 

Tap:  Dancers will learn single double sound repetitions including shuffles, flaps, digs, combinations of sounds, and counting. They will also learn flap heel, shuffle ball change, and so much more. All of this will be taught with the proper technique and precise precision to ensure the success of your dancer! Dancers will learn at their pace through games and fun technique exercises! 

Jazz: Dancers will be introduced to the foundation of jazz. Here they will learn jazz walks/runs, battements, chalne turns, grande jetes, pirouettes, leaps, splits, leg holds and so much more. Proper technique is highly enforced to ensure your dancer is learning properly. Dancers will progress at their own pace and homework may be given to help your dancer get on track or to push them to advance. Everything they learn will be in a fun and playful environment in order to maintain their love for dance!

Ballet: Your dancer will learn the foundation of Classical Ballet. Beginning with stretching and moving to the barre for balance as well as basic skills and combinations. In this class positions 1-5th are re-introduced, while being taught, proper technique in plies, tendus, degages, jumps in 1st and 2nd, eschappe, bourree, chasse, and chaine turns, arabesque, assemble, rond de jambe, saute, and much more. Terminology along with learning how to count music will also be part of their weekly class. Dancers will be taught through proper technique and games to help create that love for ballet!

Ages 6+

Tap: Dancers will continue to work on single and double sound repetitions including shuffles, flaps, combinations of sound, flap heel, shuffle ball change, buffalos, running flaps, cramp roll, 3 and 4 count riff walks, and be introduced to single time steps. Once mastered properly dancers have the chance to learn double/triple time steps, double buffalos, drawbacks, broadway/Shirley temple, back essence, bombershay, alternating cramp rolls, Maxie Ford, double paradiddle combinations along with wings and pull backs. Skills learned will be at dancers’ own pace; homework will be given to ensure the best for them to improve and advance. Proper technique will be applied every step of the way!

Hip-Hop: Dancers will learn the basics of Hip Hop Dance. The purpose of the class is to introduce young dancers to dance and inspire movement and creativity within a positive environment. Dancers will also learn basic steps and terminology in a fun and exciting way. The use of fun, age appropriate music engages the young dancers’ minds and bodies. The use of dance games such as “freestyle" and "follow the dance leader" makes the end of class the most fun! Each class starts with a warm up, dance combinations, and learning counts. Dancers have the potential to learn Hip Hop “tricks” pending how well they advance! 

Jazz: Dancers will learn the importance of counting and gain knowledge of working towards proper body alignment, core, stability for control, lengthened lines, strong arm placement, single/double pirouettes, battements above 90 degrees, leaps (right, left, center jetes), leg extensions (devant/ a la second/pitch/tilt), double chaine turns with preps from 2nd and 4th position, and splits. Technique is important when performing so homework will be given in order to keep the dancer progressing!

Musical Theater/ Jazz: Dancers will learn the importance of counting and gain knowledge of working towards proper body alignment, core, stability for control, lengthened lines, strong arm placement, single/double pirouettes, battements above 90 degrees, leaps (right, left, center jetes), leg extensions (devant/ a la second/pitch/tilt), double chaine turns with preps from 2nd and 4th position, and splits. Dancers will also learn acting skills, facials, and how to present themselves properly when performing a musical theater piece. To get a better idea think of movies such as Grease, Hairspray, and In the Heights. Technique is important when performing so homework will be given to keep the dancer progressing!

Poms: Introduction to basic pom skills and jazz technique.  Focusing on correct arm placement, form, counts, kicks, jumps and turns.  Dancers will learn how to make their arm motions clean and sharp while also working on group synchronization and formations.

Tumble/Acro: This class teaches the fundamentals of Tumble/Acro & basic body control. This class encourages dancers to become more independent in their skill building. Dancers will work on focus, following direction, social interaction, & independence. Each Student will be individualized in their skill building. 

Ballet: Your dancer will learn the foundation of Classical Ballet. Beginning with stretching and moving to the barre for balance as well as basic skills and combinations. Lyrical/Contemporary: Dancers will learn the lyrical techniques that use dramatic motion to express emotion. Dancers will learn expressive contemporary dance that combines elements of several dance genres.

Technique 1- Flexibility & Strengthening: This class focuses on challenging flexibility & strengthening to be able to achieve many skills in dance art.

Technique 2 - Leaps & Turns: This class focuses on the fundamentals of leaps, turns, & Progressions.

Dress Code

All B&C Dance Company dancers must wear appropriate dancewear to every class. Forgetting dancewear, shoes, proper hair and/or wearing inappropriate clothing is not acceptable. Water bottles are a part of the dress code. Each dancer must have a water bottle on them labeled with the dancer's name. Anytime a water bottle is not with the dancer and they need water, a charge for the water will be applied to their account.

Jazz- Black leotard, or any form fitted B&C shirt/tank, tan tights, and tan slip-on jazz shoes. Jazz pants or form-fitting shorts are optional and must be approved by the instructor. Please keep in mind shorts are required to still have tights underneath them. Black sport bras and black crop tops are acceptable. Male dancers- White shirt, black jazz bottoms, and black jazz shoes. 

Ballet- Black or Pink leotard (pink is highly preferred), pink tights, pink ballet slippers, and pink skirts. Male dancers- White shirt, black ballet pants, black ballet slippers.

Pointe- Black or Pink leotard (pink is highly preferred), pink tights, pink pointe shoes, and pink skirts. 

Lyrical/Contemporary/Musical Theater/Sign/Praise, Private Lessons, & Technique- Leo, Sleeveless solid color shirt, crop top, or sports bra, black leggings, or form fitting shorts with tights underneath, tan jazz shoes. Male dancers- same attire as jazz. 

Hip-Hop/Freestyle/TikTok- Lose clothing, socks, and clean black tennis shoes.

Tumble/Ribbons- Any colored leotard (black is preferred) or form fitted B&C shirt/tank top, form fitting shorts/legging, and barefoot.

Heels- Any colored leotard (black is preferred) or form fitted B&C shirt/tank top, form fitting shorts/leggings, and any heels that have good ankle support. (Please see the instructor for directions on what heels to wear). Knee pads are highly recommended.

Tap- Hair pulled up, leotard/tight tank top, leggings and/or shorts with tights under them or skirts with tights underneath them, and black tap shoes. 

Poms- Hair pulled up / Leotard or tight tank top or B&C Tshirt / leggings or shorts with tights / Tan Jazz Shoes / Email to purchase Poms-pending instructor's pick.

***Hair must be securely pulled up for every class. Jewelry is not permitted while in class. No exceptions. Children that wear glasses, glasses must be secured to their face*** 

We understand that some dancers have back-to-back classes, please speak with your instructor directly about any modifications and changes to the class dress code that need to be made.
